YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
& LIFE ON EARTH

You are probably fed up with being told about your 'carbon footprint' but it is an imperatively important issue to take into consideration now our planet has become so over populated by human beings. Our wildlife is suffering all over the world and needs your help before it is too late!!!

We have become so accustomed to wasting resources, we forget that what we do on a daily basis can adversely affect life on earth in many far away places.

Thousands of species of plant and animals are disappearing from the face of the earth at a terrifying rate every year. Some plant species could have held the secret to curing many of our own diseases but it is now too late to find out. Humankind are responsible for the upsetting of nature's fragile balance all over the world wiping out anything in it's path towards 'progression' and it's greed for possession of everything in sight. Thousands of acres of beautiful forests full of amazing biodiversity are being cleared every year to provide space for money making projects. We all depend on these forests for the very air we breathe so we have a right to say no!

There could be enough food sustainably grown on this planet to feed every person of every nation. Why is it we allow so many to become so obese and unhealthy (especially our children) through over eating? Even our world leaders can happily sit down to an 18 course banquet to discuss the global food crisis whilst others have barely a handful of rice to sustain them for a whole day! Our millions of tons waste products, (ironically much of it food!) are spreading further and further every year damaging the soil, water table and the very air we breathe.

Our wasteful use of power and fuel and the pollution spewing out everyday from our vehicles, factories and industry is irrevocably damaging the ecosystem that supports us all and for what? So that someone some where can earn even more money no matter what the cost to the natural world.

You may say "Well so what? It won't affect me in my lifetime." But what about your children and their children in years to come? Do we really want to leave a poisonous and lifeless planet for them full of our waste and mistakes or should we act now? If you really care for your children why not work with us to leave a special gift for them of a lifestyle and planet which is clean and healthy instead?

Our fête is being held to bring home all these issues. We want to bring awareness to the plight of the natural world and raise funds for the wonderful organisations who work hard to make life better for man, woman, child and all species on earth.. We also want to say a big thank you to all those truly dedicated and caring individuals who strive to look after our environment and the wildlife we all should value and maintain.

Humankind seems to have become lazy, indifferent and selfish and more akin to a deadly parasite destroying that which it lives upon rather than a highly intelligent animal species forming a useful part of nature's balance. Once upon a time, (not so long ago) we were all part of a close knit community taking care of each other but it seems the importance of ownership of luxury possessions, imposed upon us all by what has become a money driven society, is destroying that which we really do need to survive; a sustainable environment where all carbon life forms, which depend on each other for survival, can live in equilibrium. Now we don't seem to even care about our own species. How many people are, right this minute, suffering from lack of medical care, malnutrition and dying of starvation? Why? Could it be because we only really care about what luxury we can buy next?

You may say "But I just have to have these latest designer shoes!!" Why? We need to stop this insatiable greed for all things new and unnecessary before it is too late to turn back the ticking clock of environmental destruction. Our "shop 'til you drop" frenzy has got to stop! How many shoes can you wear at one time anyway? Does it really matter who designed your clothes? Does it not matter more to you that someone in another place has no shoes at all and probably made your clothes in a sweatshop for enough money to buy a bowl of rice to try and nourish their whole family? Think about those who have grown and cut the beautiful bouquet of flowers you just bought from a supermarket for a loved one. See: www.waronwant.org/cutflowers  A prime example of injustice in the world today which we can all address if we try...

Together, we must act now or humankind's legacy could become just another barren empty planet. We ALL depend on there being a balance of life on earth so why not take this opportunity to join with us in the fight for our wildlife...

We must act now before this beautiful illustration by Chris Shields becomes just another reminder to our children's children of the precious and wondrous wildlife we once shared this planet with...

Recycling has got to be the way forward. Don't buy products that are over package and refuse to purchase from companies that refuse to abide by the 'Fair Trade' values. Stop using plastic carrier bags completely. It takes just a little effort to recycle your rubbish and, locally, the LBRUT Council are providing many ways to help you with this. There will be lots of stands at our fête all about these issues but meanwhile check out the 'Hampton Hill Goes Green' page of the Hampton Hill Association website to find out more about recycling at home: www.hamptonhill.org/ecohh.htm

On the day of the event there will be strict rules regarding packaging:

  • No plastic packaging, bags and cling wrap. Paper, greaseproof paper, tin foil, muslin, cloth or reusable "green" bags are fine. Plastic bags are a danger to wildlife such as the red deer and birds so the site will be a 'plastic bag free zone'. Canvas bags will be on sale to raise more funds for the designated charities. Need convincing why we are insisting on no plastic bags? Watch this video: www.messageinthewaves.com

  • No polystyrene boxes even if you are recycling them.  Re-usable boxes or cardboard only.

  • No glass. This beautiful park is home for the deer which could be seriously injured by broken glass..

  • No Non Biodegradable Cleaning Products. All packaging and containers must be fully biodegradable.  All food scraps and containers will be placed into recycle bins on-site.

  • The fete will be a controlled, sustainable site.

Do be aware that all rubbish on site will be hand-sorted to be recycled by our Scout volunteers.  Take care to manage your waste disposal to make this task as easy for them as possible. Recycle bins will be provided near to the entrance of the site.

PLEASE NOTE: All visitors on the day are advised not to bring along any plastic bags as these are not permitted onsite. Only Eco- friendly bags will be allowed. We will also have our own canvas bags on sale to raise more funds for our cause.

Please support us in our mission by participating in our fete in whatever capacity you can. Your reward will be a fine day out in the beautiful Bushy Park and a good feeling that you have done something this year towards the cleaning up of our little corner of the planet!

See you there...
